Doctor Who: The Movie?

This is NOT a joke: according to an interview with website “Variety”, Harry Potter director David Yates is to start work on developing a DOCTOR WHO MOVIE with Jane Tranter.

The director commented: “We’re looking at writers now. We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right,” he said. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena. The notion of the time-travelling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time.”

“Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch,” he said.

So what does this mean for the TV Series? It’s likely to continues, (I pray,) however this seems like they may be completely re doing Doctor Who. So will this even be classed as canon? Fans may note that Doctor Who: The Movie has been proposed several times and failed.

It also seems odd to do this now. Until more details, (which might not emerge for a while,) are announced then lets not make too many judgements…
