Today is a sad day in the Doctor Who universe as the news has broken that the actress of Liz Shaw, companion to the Third Doctor has passed away on the 5th June 2012. It was confirmed on twitter this afternoon by the official Doctor Who feed.
I never met Caroline however she was one of the most interesting companions to emerge on screen. The Third Doctor era is a stunning piece of work: the earthbound Doctor working with an alien organisation has always fascinated me. Seeing the third through his first few steps was Liz who stayed with the Doctor for one season of the show.
Liz was an amazing character with a real depth to her character. May she carry on into the great UNIT HQ in the sky with Jon, Barry, Nic and all the others from that era that have sadly past.
